Startup Grind with Steven Darby

Steven Darby is the Creative Director for Heavy Heavy. His name is Steven, but everyone calls him “Darby.” He generally has no interest in drop shadows, bevels or glows and enjoys sincerity. About Heavy Heavy

Our studio was born out of a need to make things better, in a better way. Having worked at creative agencies in the past, we knew the agency format was broken. Taking on large amounts of work, up selling unnecessary services, and creating a client/agency relationship based on budgets, as opposed to creating the right solutions, is not productive.

So, we opened our very own creative space where web, identity and content work together. We stand for transparency and adaptability, and we will never overcharge, oversell, or over design. It’s a Heavy Heavy thing.

Code for San Antonio: Project and Tech Creation

Join us on Monday Night to learn about technology, sharpen your skills, and help San Antonio at the same time! There are ample opportunities for people with any skill set and experience level to make an impact.

It's easy - show up, become a part of a team & start making a difference in our community.

With enough experienced programmers, each team will be able to code right away; otherwise, the teams will sketch out the idea with main points needed and assign any tasks to be done before the next meeting (aka making calls to the city or point of interest to get needed data for the future website)

Interested in becoming a Premium Sponsor to support Code for San Antonio?

Email us at hello@codeforsanantonio.com, comment under this event, OR click the "Contact" button under the organizers list on the left side of the page.

Your company logo, as well as a link to your company site, will be advertised on our Code for San Antonio website which is nationally recognized through Code for America.

Typical Schedule

6:45pm - Doors open, find a seat and set-up your laptop

7pm - First Meeting will be a brief discussion on What is Civic Hacking is followed by short training/Keynote speech

7:15/:30pm - Get your Hack-on!  Form teams and start planning how to implement the idea.

7:30 - FOOD!

9pm - Git Commit & Follow-up Actions

FAQs

Do I need to RSVP?

Yes, we will be providing food so we'll need a good headcount for the order.

Do I need to be a coder?

No!  We welcome anyone that is willing to learn or has an interest in helping out the community through open data/tech projects.

Do I need to have a lot of experience before helping a project?

Nope, just be willing to learn and contribute towards your project.

Do I need to bring my own laptop?

This is a PLAN - DO - CREATE workshop.

We form teams and start working on projects THE SAME NIGHT!

We are firm believers in "learning by doing" as this is an all-around benefit to everyone.

Your contribution will be "real-time."  You will either be coding or spreading the word via social media; both will require a computer.  At this time, we do not have access to loaning computers.

No laptop & want to contribute via idea creation, planning, or photography (bring your camera)? Come join us as we welcome and encourage everyone at any skill level to participate in making our community, "A City on the Rise."

What are my parking options getting to the event?

Metered street parking after 6PM is FREE

We welcome and encourage everyone with all skill levels to participate as we are firm believers in getting your hands dirty and learn by doing.

Infocyte Press Conference
Infocyte’s senior leadership will hold a press conference as part of San Antonio’s Startup Week.  The event begins at 11 a.m., Feb. 10, at the San Antonio Geekdom Event Center, and it’s designed to make a regional rollout of their PULSE software. John Dickson, the chairman of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, will introduce Infocyte’s senior leadership at the event.   Chris Gerritz, Infocyte’s chief executive officer, will share a working demo of the software and the security solutions it provides to businesses of all sizes.

PULSE acts as an agentless hunt platform designed to rapidly assess network endpoints for evidence of intrusion - without the burden of complicated equipment or endpoint software installations. PULSE presumes that any network cannot be trusted, and works to validate device integrity - focusing on detecting hidden insider threats. The platform revolutionizes traditional event-based detection tools by combining forensic automation and patent-pending memory analysis techniques tailored to detect compromised systems within a network.

Eating For Your Body Type with Chef Elizabeth Johnson

This one of a kind, interactive two hour class gives you all the tools you need to start taking better care of your health.

Our curriculum pulls from both ancient and modern wisdom to give you a new understanding of the role food plays in our lives as individuals. What may be great for one person, may be detrimental to another. Health will never be a one-size-fits-all. We want to demystify the steps you need to take to getting the best results for your body type.

Your body is unique and where there are no instructions included, there is Pharm Table. We guide you through discovering your personal body type, how that affects your life, and how to take control. Our system is steeped in the Ancient knowledge known as Ayurveda ("eye-yer-vay-duh"), which was information collected over hundreds of years by Indian Monks who accounted for Mind, Body, and Spiritual elements that make up an individual. While we touch on all these things, we bring the focus into what we put in our bodies.

Startup Funding and a Bunch of Other Stuff You Should Know

This panel is not about us talking to each other while you fall asleep. We will call you out if you fall asleep, although that’s not likely. You should expect a very interactive session around topics including but not limited to getting pre-seed funding and what to do with that funding, when’s the right time for the next round (it’s not when you’re out of money), good and bad pitch decks, really useful tools and hacks. Although we plan to cover the above topics during the first hour to hour and a half we will leave the remaining time for pandemonium, if no questions or topics come up then we’ll go to happy hour!

The CyberDef Dojo Meetup: Startup Week Special!

Startup Week is a five day celebration of your community. Join your community in a new type of conference that builds momentum and opportunity around entrepreneurship, led by entrepreneurs and hosted in the entrepreneurial spaces you love. Startup Week is a reflection of your hard work and your community's unique entrepreneurial identity.

At the Dojo, we are going to celebrate this week by allowing our members to pitch an idea, business, project, or technology they want to share with the community! If you were thinking about inviting an entrepreneur friend to the Dojo, this is the time you do so.

The pitches need to be at most 5 minutes and can include a PowerPoint. However, it's up to you how you want to do your presentation.

Not all the pitches need to be about crazy cool business ideas, but they do have to be about something related to cyber security, which is a broad field in of itself.

Do you just have an idea you want to get some feedback on? Come on down to the Dojo, share your pitch, and listen to what the community has to say.

We are looking forward to hearing all the great pitches!
